Are we alive? The church of Sardis was in a city that was well protected by steep cliffs and was wealthy and there was much luxury. There was idol worship and much sin in this city. They thought the city could not be breached. On the surface those of the church of Sardis looked alive and well but God sees the heart, nothing is hidden from God. Sin had come into the lives of the church and it was dead. Still, Jesus was giving warning and there was hope and a few who had clung to Jesus. We are none without sin, yet there is hope. There is nothing hidden from God and God will forgive.
2 Chronicles 7:14 If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Please, let us remember these things were written to God’s people, believers. We are not the world’s judge but we are to be a light! We do not command others to believe as we do but live as a light that they may want to know our Savior as we do.
1 Peter 2:11-12 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, having your conduct honorable among the gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.
1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;
1 Peter 3:9 Not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.
Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.
Are we truly alive?
