Lets take look at this word that was a sin against the people of Jerusalem.
Zephaniah 1:12 And it shall come to pass at that time that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and punish the men who are settled in complacency, who say in their heart, ‘The Lord will not do good, nor will He do evil.’
The meaning of complacency is: A feeling of smug or uncritical satisfaction with oneself or one’s achievements; smugness, self-satisfaction, self approval, gloating, and pride.
Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
Are we looking out at others and pointing fingers at what they are doing when we are not cleaning up our own behavior?
Matthew 23:5-8 “But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments. They love the best places at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues, greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, ‘Rabbi, Rabbi.’ But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi;’ for One is your teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren.”
Mathew 6:3 But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.
Yet, we all like to be recognized for things we do.
Proverbs 27:2 Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips.
Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.
