Is this a commandment we think much about? Do we notice it in ourselves or in those in the world? This was presented into my thoughts today about how dangerous covetousness really is. It can be anything that we desire money, material things, power, control of others. We may notice our thoughts going to, “I would like to have this or that,” things we see or hear about maybe something our neighbor has. Do we notice if we let these thoughts take hold of our mind? How much some are willing to do to get the object or power they crave? It can destroy the lives of themselves and others. The fruit of the Spirit brings life. There is no law against love, joy, peace, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self control. You will know them by their fruit.
Exodus 20:17 You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbors.
Hebrews 13:5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
The pharisees and sadducees did not want to loose their power over the people and wanted Jesus power. Jesus power came from LOVE they could never take His power.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
What will we choose? Will we choose love over hate? Jesus did.
