When something is repeated in the scripture it tells us to carefully heed what is being said, to ponder it, to learn all we can from it, to remember it. So why do we often ignore it?
Proverbs 22:3 A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself, but the simple pass on and are punished.
Proverbs 27:12 A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself, the simple pass on and are punished.
Early on I would hear the phrase “clear and present danger.” I would begin looking around for this danger so I could avoid it. Most of the time it was something simple so I now believe it was a training in wisdom and listening. I mentioned this to someone I know and they said when they heard that phrase that they refused to listen because they did not want to live their life in fear and headed straight for whatever they were told was a danger. The Holy Spirit was sent to us as the Helper, Guide into all things Jesus taught, Comforter, and we are told He would show us things to come. No where does it say He would make us afraid. God watches over His people. Are we listening?
John 16:13-14 However, when He, the Spirit of Truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take what is mine and declare it to you.
There are things we are warned about every day that we often don’t heed: Don’t be on your phone while driving, stop signs, red lights, speed limits, check engine lights, eat healthy, wear a mask in groups, stay home when your sick and so many more we can list that we ignore, push to limits, follow the crowd, until we have to face the consequences, until we have to pay the fines, until we have to pay the bills, until we have so much hate that it makes us sick. God wants us to live a good life. He didn’t put us here to be miserable. He gave us His Word, Jesus His only begotten Son, His Holy Spirit. Does that sound like a Father who is trying to help us or harm us? Are we listening? God loves His people with a love we can never understand.
Proverbs 4:5-7 Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of My mouth. Do not forsake her and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you. Wisdom is the principle thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting get understanding.
The wisdom written in God’s word is greater than any self help book ever written. In Jesus name I pray God brings all hearts and minds to the understanding of His word to reveal the wisdom and truth of that is written in His word for Jesus came to bring us life. Amen
Are we listening?
