God’s word tells us our Heavenly Father is quick to forgive, yet He calls us to acknowledge our sin and confess it. In acknowledging and confessing we show we understand we did or said something wrong. I love that when King David was confronted with his sin he quickly confessed asked God’s forgiveness and restitution with no excuses. When Jesus was asked how many times we were to forgive when asked it was no small number. It was seventy times seven. How many of us have a hard time with this?
Matthew 18:15-17 Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established, and if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.
Matthew 18:22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.”
Matthew 5:23-24 Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you leave your gift there before the altar and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
We see here that Jesus wants us to make things right with one another before we offer Him a gift. The devil is the father of lies, excuse, and deception. Let’s not let him get a foot hold in our lives.
Proverbs 26:28 A lying tongue hates those crushed by it, a flattering mouth works ruin.
Lord help us confess and turn to you quickly our short falls and sins and follow your leading to restoration. In Jesus name amen.
