What is our foundation like in God’s word? What is our faith anchored to? Are we on shifting sand or the solid cornerstone?
I was at the beach once and very close to the shore. The waves caught me tossed me around so that I could not get enough balance or traction to make the short distance to escape the waves and no human came to help me. I can still feel the fear, see me tossed under the water and feel the sand on the bottom where I was tossed several times before I could manage the short distance out of reach of the waves. Does it feel like you are being tossed around with no way to gain your footing or escape? I also found myself in a time that I felt like my life was being pulled apart, falling apart and not understanding what was happening. In prayer I cried out, “Lord how do I get myself into these messes.” I got a one word answer, “Gullible.” I said, “Lord, I don’t want to be gullible any more.” Then one day in prayer I asked the Lord, “How do You want me to live.” I got a one word answer, “Proverbs.” God opened His word to me so as to see Him, His love, His correction, His firm foundation. I am still afraid of falling because I feel gullible but my foundation in God’s word, prayer, and trusting in God’s promises has given me a strong foundation to cling to. How is your foundation?
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 2:15-16 Be diligent to present yourselves approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth, but shun profane and idle babbling, for they will increase to more ungodliness.
Ephesians 4:14-15 That we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head -Christ-
Romans 13:10 Love does no harm to a neighbor, therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Matthew 7:24 Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock.
Lord Jesus, Abba, Holy Spirit, Your people are being buffeted with many things, help us to cling to Your solid foundation.
