We know this to be one of the fruits of the Spirit. How do we show gentleness? The book of Esther shows gentleness and great wisdom. We are told to obey the laws of the land. Esther did this seemingly with great gentleness and grace and was able to be the instrument of rescue to save all her people who were in exile in one hundred and twenty seven provinces.
Esther 2:15 Now when the turn for Esther the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her as his daughter, to go into the king, she requested nothing but what Hegai the kings eunuch, the custodian of the women advised. AND ESTHER OBTAINED FAVOR IN THE SIGHT OF ALL WHO SAW HER.
Esther obtained favor from all who saw her. They saw her behavior towards others. Heard her speak to others around her. Saw the respect she gave to the kings eunuch. What do people see and hear from our behavior? Mordecai reported a plot to kill the pagan king Ahasuerus.
Psalm 37:3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
1 Peter 2:17 Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.
Romans 12:7 Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.
Romans 12:18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.
1 Peter 2:11-12 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, having your conduct honorable among the gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.
James 1:19-20 So, then my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
May we all examine ourselves and pray for wisdom and the increase of the fruit of the Spirit that Christ’s light of love may be bright in our corner of the world. In Jesus name amen
