Do we pick and choose what we want from God’s word? Do we rely on the preacher, the teacher, or social media to tell us what to believe? Do we search the scriptures to know God’s truth? Do we look into the whole of God’s word? God gave His commandments, taught us how to walk in them, gave us examples of right and wrong behavior, then sent His Son to reveal Himself to us and to save us.
2 Peter 1:20-21 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
Jesus spoke to those that knew Jewish traditions and they would understand those examples. As in the shepherd and the bride and groom and having oil in their lamps. The groom would get a home ready for his bride but it was the father of the groom that told the son when it was time to go and get the bride. The bride and the bridesmaids were to be ready at all times for the groom to come for her even if it was midnight so they had to have oil for their lamps for light. Are we ready?
2 Timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Proverbs 30:5-6 Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.
Deuteronomy 4:2 You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you today.
Psalm 119:140 Your word is very pure; Therefore Your servant loves it.
Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:66 Teach me good judgement and knowledge, for I believe Your commandments.
I struggled with reading scripture. Now I love God’s word. Lord, that you open our hearts, minds, ears, and eyes to the goodness and righteousness of Your Word. In the beginning was the Word. God spoke all things into existence. How important are our Words?
