Growing Old

Pastor Craig of First Colleyville Church in Colleyville TX taught on Ecclesiastes 12 in a sermon a few Sundays ago. You can watch his sermons at firstcolleyville.com. I wanted to share some here of what he said.

Ecclesiastes 12:1-14

Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth. (Know God, come to Him when you are young), before the difficult days come and the years draw near when you say, “I have no pleasure in them”. (before you are old) While the sun and the light, the moon and the stars, are not darkened and the clouds do not return after the rain. In the day when the keepers ( Hands, Arms) of the house trembles, and the strong men bow down (Back bent over) when the grinders cease (Fewer teeth) because they are few, and those that look through the windows grow dim (our eye sight grows dimmer) when the doors are shut in the streets, (mouth closed less appetite because of less teeth) because the grinders are few. When one rises at the sound of a bird ( our sleep is lighter) and all the daughters of music are brought low (our hearing grows weaker). Also they are afraid of height and terrors in the way (we are afraid of falling, our balance isn’t as good) When the almond tree blossoms (hair turns white / grey) the grasshopper is a burden and desire fails (sex drive fails) For man goes to his eternal home, and the mourners go about the streets. Remember your Creator before the silver cord (Spinal cord) is loosed, or the golden bowl (Heart) is broken, or the pitcher shattered at the fountain or the wheel at the well (kidneys, can’t pee) Then the dust will return to the earth as it was and the spirit will return to God who gave it.”Vanities of vanities, ” says the Preacher “all is Vanity.” And moreover, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yes, he pondered and sought to find out and set in order many proverbs. The Preacher sought to find acceptable words; and what was written was upright words of truth. The words of the wise are like goads (Prods, pokes, nudges), and the words of scholars are like well-driven nails, given by one Shepard. And further, my son, be admonished by these. Of making many books there is no end, and much study is wearisome to the flesh. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:

Fear God and Keep His commandments, for this is man’s all! For God will bring every work into judgement, including every secrete thing, whether good or evil.

Thank You Lord for all Your blessings! Thank You for Your Word and our Savior Your Son Jesus. Let us heed Your Word and understand and follow for in keeping it there is great reward. In Jesus name amen

I am God's work in progress. God's word says "be holy as I am holy." The only way to accomplish this is to turn our lives over to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I have found that this is a learning process but begins with a real desire to know Him. My prayer is Lord keep me on your paths of righteousness bringing glory and honor to your name.
