How do we know if what we hear or think is from God, The Holy Spirit? What does God’s word say? What did Jesus say about the Holy Spirit?
John 16:13-15 However when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.
In these verses we learn that the Holy Spirit speaks for Jesus because He takes what Jesus speaks and gives to us and Jesus has all authority and gives of what His the Father has. Jesus always did what pleased the Father. Therefore Jesus always kept the Father’s commandments and never went against the Father’s teaching. Therefore anything that goes against any part of God’s word is not from Jesus or the Holy Spirit. I am thankful for God’s word! I, like dumb sheep can be lead away by the lies of this world. If we stop, move slowly, pray, and wait for God to reveal the truth in His word, in His way, we are listening for our Good Shepherd. Some times what we ask for is not what is best for us. I am thankful that God reveals this to me as well. Are we listening? Are we seeking to know Jesus teaching so our foundation gets stronger and we can heed the Holy Spirit’s warnings and promptings?
John 14:15 If you love Me keep My commandments.
John14:23 (one of my favorite verses) Jesus answered and said to him; “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My Word; and My Father will love Him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.”
John 14:26 But the Helper, the Spirit of truth, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
Jesus spent time teaching and leading His disciples. Are we disciples of Jesus true teaching?
2 Timothy 2:15-16 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and idle babbling, for they will increase to more ungodliness.
Pray without ceasing, take every thought captive, study Jesus teachings. Are we listening?
