Are we Jonahs? The book of Jonah is a small book but shares a powerful lesson! We see it open with God telling Jonah to go proclaim His message to Nineveh. Jonah judges Nineveh wicked and judges God as merciful, gracious, slow to anger, abundant in lovingkindness, One who relents in doing harm. Jonah trusts his own judgement and decides they don’t deserve a warning from such a good God. The thing is Jonah only knows what he can see and hear about Nineveh. God knows all things about Nineveh.
Johan 4;11 “And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who CAN NOT discern between their right hand and their left hand and much live stock?”
We see Jonah’s judgement is limited to what he sees and hears. God has no limitations and is the reader of every heart and knew that Nineveh did not know right from wrong. Yes, God knows our hearts and still forgives.
Should we leave judgement to the One God who knows all things? Or should we trust we know it all?
Jonah did know God in that God is love. Do you think Jonah learned God’s judgement is perfect?
