We know King David as a man after God’s own heart. Scripture tells us of the history of King David’s good and his sins and David’s response to those sins when confronted by Nathan God’s servant, and the consequences of those sins and of God’s love and forgiveness. When God sent His servant Nathan to speak to David of his sin David confessed right away; “Lord I have sinned against you.” David did not make excuses, or pass the sin off on someone else. This is different than many; to simply admit the sin and take responsibility for it. Adam and Eve blamed each other and the serpent, others made excuses. There was consequences for David’s sin but God’s love and forgiveness was always upon David and our Savior was sent through David’s seed line. How do we react when confronted with wrong? I confess I struggled with this. One day I heard the Holy Spirit say: “Angelia why do you do this to yourself?” My response was to cry: “I don’t know.” The next morning I awoke to: “Things just got easier.” I don’t know what God did but praise be to God I can now say, “I was wrong, it was my mistake, I messed up, ect. I also find I feel much better when I do things this way and I find others respond better to me when I simply confess my mistake and do my best to make it right. It really doesn’t mean we will never make mistakes and that there will not be consequences but confession and making things right as best we can is freeing from guilt and stress.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
2 Chronicles 1:9 If My people who are called by My name will HUMBLE themselves and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Psalm 19:12-14 Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. Keep your servant back from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, and I shall be innocent of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.
We none are perfect but we do have a loving , forgiving, perfect, Heavenly Father, Savior, and Holy Spirit who calls us to forgive just as He forgives and His mercies are new every morning. Blessed be our God and Savior.
