This chapter of Leviticus is the, “Promise of Blessing and Retribution!” Have we read it carefully? Have we pondered it? Have we recognized the order of the Retribution? God is a God of order not chaos. The order is the earths natural order of life. First sickness weakens the people, then the depleted supply of food weakens the people more so that we can’t work or stand against our enemies, then fear sets in, next the earth becomes hot and food supply dwindles not only for man but for the wild animals who having their natural habitat taken moves to human populated areas in search of food. Desperation follows that I pray we never have to endure.
Abraham stood in the gap for Lot, Jesus stands in the gap for us.
2 Chronicles 7:14 If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Genesis 18:20-21 And the Lord said, “Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and because their sin is very grave, I will go down altogether according to the outcry against it that has come to Me; and if not I will know.”
Abraham humbly speaks to God on behalf of Lot.
Genesis 18:23-25 And Abraham came near and said, “Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked? Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city; would You also Destroy the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous that were in it? Far be it from You to do such a thing as this to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be as the wicked; far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of the whole earth do right.”
God we know saved Lot but destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. God sent His only begotten Son by a human woman to be our King, our High Priest, the Only Name by which we must be saved. God is merciful, long suffering, just, and righteous. God’s correcting hand is for us not against us. We all fall short of His glory yet He remembers we are dust, His creation. God’s word is a light and a lamp to lead us to life.
Lord, Abba, in Jesus Your Son’s perfect, Holy name have mercy on us for we are but dust and dumb sheep. Help us to follow our True Shepherd.
