The Laodiceans lived in the very wealthy city of Laodicea and felt they had no need of any thing. They were described as lukewarm. There water supply was piped in and the water was lukewarm so they understood this description. We might understand it as being on the fence. This city was also know for idol worship. They seemed to be following both idol and Jesus. What does our daily life look like? Do we walk with Jesus in His ways? Do we walk in the world’s ways of complaining, hate, division, greed, anger, slander, gossip, and other of the 7 things God hates?
Proverbs 6:16-19 These six things the Lord hates, Yes seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren.
Joshua 24:14-15 Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the river and in Egypt. Serve the Lord! And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, chose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the river, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
Matthew 12:33 Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.
This is hard. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
Romans 12:9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.
Pray without ceasing.
