Mercy

Genesis 18:22-33 Then the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the Lord. And Abraham came near and said, “Would You destroy the righteous with the wicked? Suppose there were fifty righteous within the city; would You also destroy the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous that were in it? Far be it from You to do such a thing as this, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be as the wicked; Far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” So the Lord said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.” Then Abraham answered and said, “Indeed now, I who am but dust and ashes have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord: Suppose there were five less than fifty righteous; would You destroy it for the lack of five?” So He said, “If I find forty five, I will not destroy it.” And he spoke to Him again and said, “Suppose there should be found forty there?” So He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of forty. “Then he said, “Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: “Suppose thirty should be found there?” So He said, “I will not do it if I find thirty there. “And he said, “Indeed now, I have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord: Suppose twenty should be found there?” So He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of twenty.” Then he said, “Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak but once more: Suppose ten should be found there?” And He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.” So the Lord went His way as soon as He had finished speaking with Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place.

Abraham was pleading for the life of his nephew, Lot. God was patient with Abraham and Abraham trusted God to keep His word. God shows great mercy because in the end Lot and his wife and two daughters were spared, but still Lot’s wife looked back and was turned to a pillar of salt.

Matthew 18:12-14 “What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is going astray. And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.”

John 10:11 I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd gives His life for the sheep.

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is long suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Lord, I thank You for Your Word, for Your teaching, for Your love, for Your mercy. Freely we have been given . Lord, in Jesus name help us freely give. Lord, You sent Jonah to Nineveh to warn them because of Your mercy and You sent Your only begotten Son that Your world might have eternal life by just believing in Him. Your mercy is beyond all understanding. Lord, we have all fallen short of Your leading. Lord, please give us a hunger and a thirst to know Your Word and walk in it. To be doers and not only hearers or readers. Strengthen Your Holy Spirit within us. Lord, keep prodding us until we hear and obey. Be louder than the world around us! In Jesus name amen.

Blessed are the peace makers for they shall be called children of God.

I am God's work in progress. God's word says "be holy as I am holy." The only way to accomplish this is to turn our lives over to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I have found that this is a learning process but begins with a real desire to know Him. My prayer is Lord keep me on your paths of righteousness bringing glory and honor to your name.
