Let us think and pray before we speak. Is it really a prayer request? Am I worried about this and just need to talk about it? Is this persons behavior towards me bothering me and I want to complain or discuss it? We all want to talk to others and have them support our opinions. A good trustworthy accountability partner / friend will be trustworthy to keep it between you and them and they wont flatter you or just take your side and just agree with you. They will lead you to what God’s word says about the situation and they will tell you when you’re wrong and they will pray with you and for you. We should always examine our motives and pray first that the Lord reveal and correct us first.
Philippians 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayers and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to GOD.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another just as you also are doing.
Proverbs 11:13 A talebearer reveals secrets, but he who is of a faithful spirit conceals a matter.
Proverbs 6:19 (#7 in the thing god hates) A false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren.
Proverbs 10:19 In a multitude of words sin is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is wise.
Galatians 6:1 Brethren, if any man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.
A bible study leader said in one of her conversations with a friend that her friend told her “We are all one step from the ditch and that means you too!” When I want to complain this often comes to mind. When we are hurt, worried, angry or even joyful the first stop should be with our Lord in prayer. True heart felt prayer where we listen to the Holy Spirit and examine our own behavior. Maybe it is ourselves that needs to make an adjustment. The wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God (James 1:20.) A brother offended is harder to win than a strong city, and contentions are like bars of a castle (Proverbs 18:19)
Lord, thank You for Your teaching and for Your forgiveness. Lord, set that guard at the door to our lips and bridle our tongues; that we may speak in love and gentleness that we may not cause pain but that we may bring You glory and honor and praise. How beautiful it is for God’s children to live in love and peace considering each other more than ourselves. In Jesus name amen
