In 2 Kings we find the story of Naaman the leper. A young girl from Israel taken captive tells her mistress about the prophet in Israel that can heal him. The king sends Naaman with a letter to the king in Samaria and when Elisha hears of it tells the king to send Naaman to him. Now Naaman must have been imagining how grand this thing of being healed would be:
2 Kings 5:10 And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored to you, and you shall be clean.”
A simple thing sent by a servant messenger. Nothing grand no big fan fair.
2 Kings 5:11 But Naaman became furious, and went away and said, “Indeed, I said to MYSELF, ‘He will surely come out to me, and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, and wave his hand over the place, and heal the leprosy.’
How often do we decide or imagine how God will answer our prayers? How often do we miss seeing what He has done because we didn’t believe that could be His answer?
2 Kings 5:13 And his servants came near and spoke to him, and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do something great, would you have not done it? How much more then, when he says to you, ‘wash, and be clean’?”
So those around Naaman gave good counsel and Naaman heeds what they say and puts aside what he imagined and his pride.
2 Kings 5:14 So he went down and dipped seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.
How much more can we heed the word of God?
John 14:15 If you love Me keep My commandments.
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
