Recorder?

Those who have recorded historical facts have always been. Without those gifted to record history we would not have the scripture, we would not have the wisdom that God put forth in His word. Will we learn from history? We can try to rewrite it but we cannot change it. The tribe of Israel was saved because of it.

Esther 6:1-3 That night the king could not sleep. So he commanded to bring the book of the records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king. And it was found written that Mordecai had told of the Bigthana and Tesh, two of the kings eunuchs, the door keepers who had sought to lay hands on king Ahasuerus. Then the king said, “What honor or dignity has been bestowed on Mordecai for this?”

We know from the recording of this that Haman was offended by Mordecai and was seeking to hang him and put all the Jews to death. But God had other plans. There are many accounts in scripture that tells of kings reading the recordings of history. These were important for the future use and learning. It was also commanded for future kings of Israel to write for themselves all the words of Moses.

Deuteronomy 17:18-19 Also it shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for himself a copy of this law in the book, from the one before the priests, the Levites. And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God and be careful to observe all the words of this law and these statutes.

There are those who have recorded great findings throughout our history like Thomas Edison and there are those who have done great evil like Hitler. Our history is full of good and bad. We gain much when we learn from both.

Proverbs 4:14-15 Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of evil. Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn away from it and pass on.

Proverbs 27:12 A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself; the simple pass on and are punished.

Will we gain wisdom and knowledge and understanding from God’s word from our own history or are we doomed to keep committing the same mistakes? Knowing the truth of God’s word is a great start. It is up to us who believe to study, learn, and teach our children.

Deuteronomy 6:6-9 And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

How important it was for God’s people to know and follow His word. Will we be His light in His world that in the day of His visitation to those around us that they will hear? Will we be a stumbling block?

Isaiah 30:21 Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.

I am God's work in progress. God's word says "be holy as I am holy." The only way to accomplish this is to turn our lives over to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I have found that this is a learning process but begins with a real desire to know Him. My prayer is Lord keep me on your paths of righteousness bringing glory and honor to your name.
