I dare say we all have some regret. Do we truly regret our actions or do we regret the consequences? Do we make a heart change a long with a behavior change?
Ezekiel 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
What motivates us to do things? What motivates us to do things for others?
Proverbs 27:2 Let another praise you and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.
Proverbs 21:2 Every way of a man seems right in his own eyes. But the Lord weighs the heart.
Proverbs 20:27 The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all the inner depths of his heart.
Hebrews 4:12-13 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give an account.
Confession is not for God but for us. If we do not acknowledge our sin, how can we turn from our sin?
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Jeremiah 17:10 I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.
So what shall we say?
Psalm 19:12-14 Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. Keep back your servant from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, and I shall be innocent of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.
