Can we, this generation remember polio, measles, mumps, rubella, whooping cough, meningitis, scarlet fever, Reyes syndrome, Spanish flu, and many others in our history? If we are honest most of us can’t remember the devastation these diseases caused. Someone, a mother, a father, a sister, a brother prayed in that time for a cure for these diseases. Our God answered. He gave those responsible for the vaccines the heart for people to want to help and the mind to seek the answers and then led them to the answer. Today we pray for a cure for cancer, we pray for a cure for covid, for it to end. Through out our history God has used man to accomplish many things. Every good and perfect gift is from God. When we forget history we fall into all the same old patterns and mistakes.
Judges 2:10-11 When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers another generation arose after them who did not know the Lord nor the work He had done for Israel. Then the children of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and served the baals.
Proverbs 15:31 The ear that hears the rebukes of life will abide among the wise.
We cannot change history but we can learn from it. God gave us His written word handed down to men of old to give us a guide so that we may know His truth for ourselves. Our Bible, the Holy Scriptures is full of history but Jesus is still writing our story. Will we heed the rebukes of life? We will learn from our history? I know what Jesus brought me out of and always want to stay under His wings forever. Are we going to repeat the mistakes our ancestors made or will we remember and learn and change? God forgive us and lead us in Your mercy. In Jesus name amen
