Do we as Christ followers remember what God has done for us? Do we remember the great and the small? Do we look for God’s glory in our trials? Do we see only the bad? Do we step forward with only the little we have to give?
Are we Philips or Andrews?
John 6:4 Now the Passover, a feast of the Jews, was near. Then Jesus lifted His eyes, and seeing, a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip; “Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?”
John 6:7 Philip answered Him, “Two denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that everyone of them may have a little.”
Did Andrew remember the water to wine? Was Andrew asking Jesus “You turned water to wine can You take this little and turn it to feed a great multitude?”
John 6:8-13 One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother said to Him, “There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?” Then Jesus said, “Make them sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and like wise the fish, as much as they wanted. So when they were filled, He said to His disciples, “Gather the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost.” Therefore they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten.
Not only did Jesus feed them with just a little, He gave more than they could ask or imagine. What can God do with our little? He reminds me that it is He who gives the increase.
1 Corinthians 3:6-7 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.
Again what God sends out will come back to Him bearing the fruit, the increase for which He sent it; small or great.
Isaiah 55:11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
Can we trust God and let go of our little into His hands even though we don’t or can’t see what He is accomplishing with it?
I struggle with this. Do You? Can we move forward? God is faithful.
