Genesis 1:20-24 Then God said, “Let the waters abound with abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.” So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good and God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth.” So the evening and the morning were the fifth day. Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and every creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind;” and it was so.
Genesis 1:29-30 And God said, “See I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. Also to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to every thing that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I give every green herb for food; ” and it was so.
There was to be no killing of any thing in God’s world.
Genesis 2:19 Out of the ground the Lord formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever he called each living creature, that was its name.
When we give something a name it becomes more important to us.
Genesis 3:21 Also for Adam and Eve his wife the Lord made tunics of skin, and clothed them.
Nothing had died in God’s world until Adam and Eve sinned. An animal God created and was His and Adam named its life was taken to cover their sin. This showed just how ugly and horrible sin was to our Good Father, our Creator. So terrible that an animal sacrifice could not cover it but reminded us how terrible sin was and is. Sin takes life, God gives life.
Isaiah 1:11 To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me? Says the Lord. ” I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of cattle. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs or goats.”
Isaiah 1:16-17 Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from My eyes. Cease to do evil, Learn to do good seek justice, rebuke the oppressor, defend the fatherless, plead for the widow.
Psalm 51:16-17 For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart. These, O God, You will not despise.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world the He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Hebrews 3:15 While it is said: today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.
Lord, we thank You for sending Your Son to save us and bringing us back to You. Jesus, thank You for loving the Father and us so much You became our perfect sacrifice and then You did not leave us orphans. You left us Your Word and gave us Your Holy Spirit to guide and comfort us. Blessed be Your Holy name forever. Thank You for Your long suffering with each of us; for not for You I would be lost to the most perfect love of all. God is Love.
