Take Captive?

Matthew 12:36-37 But I (Jesus) say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgement. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.

2 Corinthians 10 :5 Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praise worthy meditate on these things.

When I first heard in my spirit “take every thought captive” I said, “how am I supposed to do that? It’s impossible we have thoughts coming in all the time.” My favorite way now is when I hear or read something I ask God, “is this true, how should I answer, or should I answer?” There is so much lying going on to get us riled up one way or another that we need to be very vigilant in what we speak, share or think about. The last part of the verse helps us clarify; “Bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.” Words spoken cannot be taken back.

Colossians 4:6 Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer every man.

Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

Psalm 141:3-5 Set a guard, O Lord over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips, Do not incline my heart to any evil thing, to practice wicked works with men who work iniquity; and do not let me eat of their delicacies. Let the righteous strike me; it shall be a kindness. And let him rebuke me; It shall be as excellent oil let my head not refuse it.

Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.

In Jesus name Amen

I am God's work in progress. God's word says "be holy as I am holy." The only way to accomplish this is to turn our lives over to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I have found that this is a learning process but begins with a real desire to know Him. My prayer is Lord keep me on your paths of righteousness bringing glory and honor to your name.
