Take Up Your Cross and Follow Me

Matthew 16:24 If any one desires to come after Me let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.

Have you ever wondered about the meaning of this verse? Jesus cross was not only a wooden cross but to do the will of His Father in heaven and His will is a delight. How do we take up our cross and follow Jesus? The same way that Jesus followed His Father in heaven. Psalm 40:08 I delight to do thy will, O my God; thy law is within my heart.

Ephesians 5:1-2 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children, and walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling aroma.

Titus 3:2-9 to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men. For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another, but when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through he washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. This is faithful saying and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who believe in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable.

1 Timothy 2:1-6 Therefore I exhort first of that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence, for this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior who desires all Men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of truth, for there is one God and one Mediator between God and men the Man Jesus Christ who gave Himself a ransom for all to be testified in due time.

Titus 3:9-11 but avoid foolish disputes, genealogy, contention, and strivings about the law, for they are unprofitable and useless. Reject a divisive man after the first and second admonition knowing that such a person is warped and sinning, being self condemned.

James 1:26 If any one think himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless.

Ephesians 4:29-32 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification that it may impart grace to the hearers and do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by who, you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you with all malice and be kind to one another as God in Christ forgave you.

Matthew 5:43-46 You have heard that it was said, you shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy, but I say to you love your enemies bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father in heaven for He makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust, for if you love those who love you, what reward have you? do not even the tax collectors do the same.

Matthew 5:21 You have heard it said to those of old you shall not murder and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgement, but I say to you that whoever is angry with his brothers without cause shall be in danger of the judgement.

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and those that love it shall eat of the fruit thereof.

Matthew 5:39 but I tell you not to resist an evil person, but whoever slaps you on the right cheek turn the other to him as well also,

Psalm 16:1-2 Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust. O my soul, you have said to the Lord You are my Lord, my goodness is nothing apart from You.

Psalm 121:3 He will not allow your foot to be moved He who keeps you will not slumber.

Thank You Lord God for Your Son our Shepard. Though we are weak He is strong. In Jesus name Lord I ask Your Holy spirit to be strong in us and be louder than those who would lead us astray form You. Help us to follow You so closely that the world truly does see You in us.

Lord forgive me and lift me up when I grow weary of well doing and following in your foot steps from looking at what is going on in the world. Remind me You are my focus and to keep my eyes and my mind on You. You alone are worthy of our praise. Thank You Father You take notice of us and hear our prayers. Amen

I am God's work in progress. God's word says "be holy as I am holy." The only way to accomplish this is to turn our lives over to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I have found that this is a learning process but begins with a real desire to know Him. My prayer is Lord keep me on your paths of righteousness bringing glory and honor to your name.
