The Sabbath ?

The Sabbath:

I have pondered this question over and over again. It has become a Sunday in most people’s eyes. God said the Sabbath is the seventh day of the week.

Genesis 2:1-3  The  heavens and the earth and all the host of them were finished. 2 and on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.3 The Lord blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

If we look at the calendar the seventh day of the week is Saturday. The weeks on the calendar always start with Sunday not Monday.

Isaiah 56:2   Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who lays hold on it: Who keeps from defiling the Sabbath, and keeps his hands from doing evil.

Isaiah 59:13-114  If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your own pleasure on My holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy day of the Lord honorable, and shall honor Him, not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor speaking your words 14 Then you shall delight yourself in the Lord: and I will cause you to ride on the hills of the earth, and feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father. The mouth of the Lord has spoken.

Now we move to Jesus words and more Jesus actions because He honored the Sabbath God the Fathers way.

John 1:1-4  In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3  All things were made through Him and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of Men.

Jesus came from God. Jesus tells us in The Sermon On The Mount:

Matthew 5:17-19 Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 for assuredly, I say to you, till the heaven and the earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the Law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore breaks one of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus

Matthew 12:9-13  Now when He had departed from there, He went into their synagogue (on the Sabbath). 10 and behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. They asked Him saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?” That they might accuse Him. 11 Then Jesus said to them “What man is there among you who has one sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath will not lay hold of it and lift it out?” Of how much more value is a man than a sheep?” Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”

Jesus was found on the Sabbath teaching in the synagogues and healing the people. Jesus was doing God’s work, honoring His Father in heaven.

God gave us all things; the earth and all it provides for us. Every day is God’s day. Is it not good to pause for the one day He has asked for us to rest and take notice of all those things He has given us? Is it too much to ask to spend time with Him on His day thanking Him for all the things He has done for us in the week? Is it too much to ask that we spend some time with our brothers and sisters in Christ to uplift, encourage and worship Him for all His gifts? God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He never changes. God is love.

Lord I come before You today to thank You for all You have done for me this week. You gave me amazing strength to complete all the tasks I was given. Lord You kept my thoughts high and on You. Lord You woke me in the morning with a song. Lord You gave me safe and peaceful sleep. Lord You guided me to more understanding in Your word. Lord You helped me with the details needed for the tasks I worked on and provided income for it and You were right! Even though I grumbled You told me it would be beautiful and it is. Lord then You have given me rest and recovery for my body. Lord You do so much for me each week that I could fill books. Lord I pray all Your people see Your goodness and gifts. Lord Jesus, Father God You alone are worthy to be praised. Look in my heart and know my gratitude for all those things I have not written here. Lord Your presence is my most precious gift. Please always keep me on Your paths of righteousness bringing glory and honor to Your name. Thank You for Your promise to never leave me nor forsake me. I pray Your protection around all Your people. For the angel of the Lord encamp round about those who fear Him and He delivers them.

In Jesus name Lord I give You all the glory, honor and power for in You I do trust.

Amen

I am God's work in progress. God's word says "be holy as I am holy." The only way to accomplish this is to turn our lives over to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I have found that this is a learning process but begins with a real desire to know Him. My prayer is Lord keep me on your paths of righteousness bringing glory and honor to your name.
