Job 42:1-3 Then Job answered and said: “I know that You can do all things, and that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You. You asked, ‘Who is this who hides counsel with out knowledge?’ Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.’
In Genesis we find that Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him as righteousness. When God didn’t work in the timing of Sarah and Abraham they decided to have a baby by other means (genesis 16:1-4).
But God had the true plan: Genesis 21:1-3 And the Lord visited Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as He had spoken. For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the “set time” of which God had spoken to him, and Abraham called the name of his son, whom Sarah bore to him Isaac.
Rebekah prayed about her pregnancy and God revealed that she was carrying twins and that the older would serve the younger. Rebekah and Jacob took things into their own hands and deceived Isaac to get what they thought was the plan.
Genesis 27:8-10 Now therefore my son, obey my voice according to what I command you. Go now to the flock and bring me from there two kids of the goats, and I will make a savory food from them for your father such as he loves. Then you shall take it to your father, that he may eat and that he may bless you before his death.
Rebekah and Jacob deceived Isaac into giving Jacob the blessing that was meant for Esau. It did not work out for Jacob had to flee from his brothers threat of murder. Esau got the earthly blessing.
But God had the better plan: Genesis 28:12-15 Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. And Behold, the Lord stood above it and said: “I am the Lord God of Abraham and your father Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and the the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.”
Wow! We know God did just as He said He would. We also know Jacob ended up being deceived as he and his mother, Rebekah had deceived Esau and Isaac.
Psalm 119:5-6 Oh that my ways were directed to keep Your statutes! Then I would not be ashamed, when I look into all Your commandments. In Jesus name amen.
Isaiah 55:8-9 For My thoughts are not your thoughts; Nor are your ways My ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.
Job 42:1 Then Job answered the Lord and said: ” I know that You can do all things, and that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You.”
Will we trust Him today?
Lord, Thank You for Your great mercy, love, and wisdom. Oh that our hearts and minds be opened to You and Your Word to discern it rightly that we may bring You glory, honor, and praise. In Jesus name amen.
