Amos is a book of the Bible that gives Israel and Judah and now us warning to turn from sin and back to God. It is repeated to each tribe that:
Amos 1:3 Thus says the Lord: “for three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, because they have threshed Gilead with implements of iron.
This was repeated to Gaza, Tyre, Edom, Ammon, Moab, Judah, and Israel and then they were each told their sins. Kind of like 3 strikes your out. So they would receive the consequences of their sin as God gave His judgement.
Amos 3:1-2 Hear this word that the Lord has spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt saying: “You only have I known of all the families of the earth, Therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.”
A good Father teaches his children right from wrong. God told them what would happen if they did what was wrong in His sight and God still sent His prophets to warn them when they strayed and gave many warnings and chances to turn back to Him and His ways.
Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.
God kept His word! God warned not to be mean but because He loves His people with a love of unsearchable boundaries.
Ezekiel 18:23 “Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?” says the Lord God, “and not that he should turn from his wicked ways and live?”
How often do we ignore God’s warnings? God’s loving, caring, warning to do or not to do something.
Proverbs 27:12 A prudent man for sees evil and hides himself; The simple pass on and are punished.
Proverbs 1:10 My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.
Yet God still forgives and restores us to Himself when we return to Him.
Joel 2:25 “So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, The crawling locust, and the chewing locust, My great army which I sent among you.
Will we listen? Are we listening?
