We receive a lot of warnings about different things in this world. There are medication warnings, high water warnings, high voltage warnings, don’t dig warnings and more. Every day there are warnings just for the day; air quality, storm, rain, heat advisory and others. God gave us His Word and His only begotten Son and in His Word are many warnings. Are we listening? How many times do we ignore warnings? How often do we decide they aren’t important enough to heed or listen to? Do we decide the warning doesn’t apply to us? Do we listen for God’s voice during our day to warn us? Maybe by a scripture that comes to mind or a direct warning like the robot in a show I remember, “Warning Will Rodgers Warning” as he swings around crazily. That would be nice but again, will we listen?
Deuteronomy 19:5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, THEN you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine.
Deuteronomy 28:15 But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and statutes which I command you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:
All of the curses that are listed after this scripture are upon the world today. Yet our God is merciful in that He sent His only begotten Son that we might have eternal life but we are called to keep His commandments. If we will keep His commandments our lives will bear fruit, for God’s promises to never leave nor forsake us hold true. Our God does not lie.
Proverbs 18:13 He who answers a matter before he hears it, it is folly and shame to him.
How many times do we speak of things we do not know the truth of? How often do we speak things about others in the media, the ones we bump into in the store, close friends and family, that we don’t know the truth of or only have hearsay and our own opinion? Are we really entitled to voice our own opinion as Christ followers?
Jude 1:9-11 Yet Michael the archangel in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!” But they speak evil of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they are corrupt themselves. Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.
Jude, a small but powerful warning.
James 1:19-20 So them, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
Warning after warning. Are we listening?
Lord, God our Father give us ears to hear what You say. In Jesus name
