Are we watching? Are we bearing the fruit of the Spirit? Do we have oil in our lamp?
Matthew 26:41 “Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is week”
2 Timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
Are the fruits of the Spirit the oil that is flowing from your lamp?
2 Corinthians 13:15 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? Unless indeed you are disqualified?
Proverbs 6:16-19 These six things the Lord hates, yes seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren.
Proud look- Do we think ourselves better than any other? We have all sinned and fallen short.
A Lying tongue- Do we repeat things that we do not know if they are true?
Hands that shed innocent blood- Do we talk about others in a negative way? Do we speak ill of those we don’t even know personally? Only God knows the heart.
Devising wicked plans- Do we do things with selfish motives?
Running to evil- Are we quick to join in with others putting someone down?
False witness- Do we believe every thing we hear? Even on the news? Then speak the same to others? A half truth is still a lie. Wait and watch.
Discord- Do we complain about others or things around us stirring up strife? Blessed are the peace makers.
Lord, thank You for your word. Let Your correction be as excellent oil to our heads. As Your servant David said: “Lord, who can understand their errors? Cleanse us from secret faults and keep back Your servant from presumptuous sins.” In Jesus name amen
