Whitewashed?

Jesus said that those who were consider the holy men, the scribes and the pharisees were as whitewashed tombs. The religious men of those days. Have we begun to be as whitewashed tombs? Are we full of hate, anger, racism, worldly cares, and judgement? Do we only go through the motions of quoting this scripture or that scripture to justify our thoughts and behavior? Has our hearts grown cold? Can we ask ourselves these questions and answer honestly? When Jesus says, “Woe,” we need to take heed.

Matthew 23:27-28 “Woe to you scribes and pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

God’s word gives us many warnings. Proverbs is amazing! Two of those warnings we can all remember during this time are:

Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Proverbs 16:29 A violent man entices his neighbor, and leads him in a way that is not good.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

If we have all sinned and it is only by the grace of God we are saved; what do we have to do with judging another?

Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God and know my heart; try me and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Psalm 140:4 Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked, Preserve me from violent men, who have purposed to make my steps stumble.

I am God's work in progress. God's word says "be holy as I am holy." The only way to accomplish this is to turn our lives over to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I have found that this is a learning process but begins with a real desire to know Him. My prayer is Lord keep me on your paths of righteousness bringing glory and honor to your name.
