We are none perfect. We are humans. Do we boast about what we do or don’t do? Maybe think that we at least are better than this one or that one? Maybe think we are doing pretty good because we do this or that. God’s word tells us pride goes before destruction. God will let us trip up to remind us it is He who keeps us from falling. In and of myself there is nothing good. Our flesh sees and hears and has needs and wants. Only with God’s help can we stay on His paths of righteousness. So why would we boast? We are given consequences so we may know we made a mistake and can repent and do better. Just as a child learns as they grow we too learn and grow in God’s love and light for our Heavenly Father loves us. It is better to remain humble and teachable.
Proverbs 25:26 A righteous man who falters before the wicked is like a murky spring and a polluted well.
Proverbs 25:28 Who ever has no rule over his own spirit is like a city broken down, without walls.
Romans 2:21 You, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that a man should not steal, do you steal?
Romans 2:23 You who make your boast in the law, do you dishonor God through breaking the law?
Those of us who proudly boast of being christian do we walk the perfect walk of Jesus way? How do we treat others? We are humans not perfect. We all sin and fall short.
Proverbs 16:18-19 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
Matthew 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
The book of Matthew is worth committing to memory. We humans can’t walk on our own; we need Jesus. So why would we boast?
Proverbs 30:8 Remove falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, feed me with the food allotted for me.
Proverbs 30:5 EVERY word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.
Lord, bless us and keep us in all Your ways that we may shine Your truth.
