The Holy Spirit is a Gift to us who believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior. There is a saying, “The Holy Spirit will not dwell in an unclean temple.” This statement is no where in scripture. Some have taken 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 and 2 Corinthians 6:16-17 and assigned this to mean that. The Holy Spirit’s work in us is to guide us in righteousness, convicting us of sin and of righteousness, reminding us of God’s teaching. As scripture says we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. We are none perfect and scripture tells us if we can control our unruly tongues we could control the whole body. Thankfully, there is correction, repentance, and forgiveness. There is another scripture that I love that reminds me I am a work in progress.
Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will complete it til the day of Jesus Christ.
Romans 3:10 There is none righteous no not one.
Romans 3:21-24 But now the righteousness of God apart from the Law is revealed, being witnessed from the Law and the prophets, even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
I am so glad I don’t have to be perfect for the Holy Spirit to abide with me for without Jesus I would fail. Each day is a new day to try again and learn from our Savior and the Gift He ask the Father for us.
Psalm 16:2 O my soul, you have said to the Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You.
Romans 7:18 For I know that in me (that is in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me but how to perform what is good I do not find.
Paul in this made clear that the struggle is real. God still chose Paul. If we were perfect there would be no need for forgiveness. God is love.
1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
John 14:15 If you love Me keep My commandments.
John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will TEACH you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I have said to you.
I am so grateful for God’s gift of the Holy Spirit, for His guidance and leading for not giving up on me.
